Way of the Hunter 2
Way of the Hunter 2 maps and animals: all 28 launch species
The base game has three maps: New Laurentia and Kilimaya Reserve at 100 km² each, plus the 16 km² Hearth & Hunt Headquarters. The official launch list places 28 species across the two large reserves.
Choose the reserve before choosing a route
New Laurentia and Kilimaya Reserve each cover 100 km². Hearth & Hunt Headquarters is a smaller 16 km² region with an expandable lodge for displaying trophies collected across the reserves. It also has hunting opportunities, so “three maps” does not mean three equally sized reserves.
Start a species hunt by choosing the appropriate reserve from the lists below. If your immediate goal is arranging a collection from different regions, Headquarters serves that purpose. The official FAQ gives map areas and species membership; it does not provide a complete coordinate atlas or promise an animal at every marked location.

New Laurentia: 15 species
The Laurentia list contains American wolverine, Grizzly bear, Dall sheep, Eastern wild turkey, Northwestern grey wolf, Mallard, Western moose, White-tailed ptarmigan, Rocky Mountain elk, Rocky Mountain mule deer, Snowshoe hare, Northern white-tailed deer, Wood bison, Rocky Mountain pronghorn and Central European wild boar.
Use these exact names when matching an objective or looking up an animal in the game. Mule deer and white-tailed deer are separate entries, as are turkey, mallard and ptarmigan. A route for one animal should not be treated as a location guide for the others just because they share a reserve.

Kilimaya Reserve: 13 species
Kilimaya’s list contains Greater kudu, Blue wildebeest, Nile crocodile, Spotted hyena, Blesbok, Cape mountain zebra, Common hippopotamus, Cape honey badger, Southern lion, South African ostrich, Cape buffalo, Southern yellow-billed duck and Southern common warthog. Combined with Laurentia’s 15, this gives the announced 28 launch species.
The FAQ identifies Southern lion, Common hippopotamus and Cape African buffalo as the three species with charging or aggressive reactions implemented at that point. Take that into account when approaching these animals. It does not establish the same behavior for every predator or justify assuming all other wildlife is harmless.

Find current activity and separate future maps
Tracks are generated dynamically between need zones, and frightened animals can leave temporary tracks while moving across the map. Follow the evidence in your session; the dog can search for signs, locate active life zones and follow wounded animals’ blood trails. High-contrast signs and tracks are available in settings.
The roadmap says 1.0 launched with 28 species rather than the earlier target of 30. Two more species and future reserves are planned, with the FAQ targeting two maps in the first year. A European reserve is planned but is not among those next two maps. These statements describe future content, not additional maps or animals guaranteed to be available now.
