Way of the Hunter 2
Way of the Hunter 2 Crossplay: No in Version 1.0
The developer FAQ describes two players, but the Xbox product page checked on October 4 labels online co-op as 2-4 players. These official sources disagree. We have not independently tested four-player sessions, so the current maximum remains unresolved; check the actual lobby on your platform before buying for a larger group.
Conflicting player limits and Xbox purchase conditions
The developer FAQ describes two players, but the Xbox product page checked on October 4 labels online co-op as 2-4 players. These official sources disagree. We have not independently tested four-player sessions, so the current maximum remains unresolved; check the actual lobby on your platform before buying for a larger group.
The same Xbox page says cloud play requires an eligible Game Pass subscription and a separate game purchase. Console online multiplayer also requires an eligible subscription. Cloud-play eligibility does not mean the game purchase is included in Game Pass.
Before joining a friend
Finish the tutorial before accepting a multiplayer invitation. The developer lists joining before tutorial completion as a cause of a locked game state. Preventing that problem is preferable to trying to recover progress afterwards.
Check that both players have installed the available update for their platform. This guide uses the FAQ and the 1.1.212672 patch notes as its evidence boundary. A matching update does not itself enable cross-platform play. If you and your friend are buying on different platforms, do not assume there is a crossplay switch to turn on.
What the developer FAQ says
The FAQ calls the current mode a two-player free-play co-op experience. It separately lists more than two players, text chat, password-protected sessions and co-op expeditions as planned improvements. A roadmap item is not an instruction for a currently available menu.
The crossplay answer specifically refers to version 1.0. The developer says it must evaluate technical and platform-holder requirements before making promises. The checked 1.1 notes do not change that statement; they are not evidence of a crossplay launch date.
What carries between solo and co-op?
The FAQ says progress within a single-player or multiplayer session is saved. However, the two modes use separate worlds and animal populations. Changes to a population in solo should not be expected to appear in multiplayer.
Do not confuse saved session progress with a shared world that stays synchronized across different play sessions with other players. That broader persistent-world feature is still described as a future plan. Choose the mode you want to invest time in with this distinction in mind.

When animals disappear or interactions stop
For temporary desync, the official known-issues page suggests moving closer to the host or waiting briefly. It also records animals disappearing while the host is far away and difficulty hitting moving animals for the joining player. Those symptoms are listed bugs; they do not establish that your rifle or ammunition is at fault.
If doors or parking signs stop responding, reconnecting to the session is the listed workaround. These steps address the specific symptoms, not every connection failure. Record your platform, build and whether you were host or client if you need to report a persistent issue.

What update 1.1 fixed, and what remains open
Update 1.1 fixes clients being unable to equip or remove clip-ons through the radial menu, and vehicle shaking after leaving a session inside a vehicle and rejoining. The checked known-issues list still mentions missing animal audio, Xbox inventory clearing after fast travel, and a crash when the host uses Buffden Apex Predator.
If tutorial progress is already locked, protect your existing saves and consult official support before taking destructive recovery steps. This guide does not recommend deleting saves. The developer’s bug-report link and the running issue list are available from the sources below.
