Way of the Hunter 2 left Early Access on September 29, 2026. Nine Rocks Games develops the game and THQ Nordic publishes it. The official launch material lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox One is not among those listed platforms.
For PC, the Steam listing checked for this guide specifies Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12 and 38 GB of free storage. Its minimum GPU options are the RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT. This differs from the older FAQ’s 30 GB and minimum DirectX 11: use the current store requirements when checking your machine.
Reserves, animals and the hunting loop
The main hunting reserves are Laurentia and Kilimaya, with a smaller H.E.L.P. headquarters area in the Rocky Mountains. The FAQ names 28 species across the two reserves. Its additional planned species are not part of that count.
Laurentia includes moose, elk, grizzly bear and wood bison; Kilimaya includes lion, Cape buffalo, hippopotamus and Nile crocodile. Follow tracks and habitat conditions, use your dog to help find signs and blood trails, and review shots with the bullet camera. This is a starting overview, not a tested spawn map or an animal-location guarantee.
Co-op, crossplay and solo play
The checked FAQ describes two-player free-play co-op. It explicitly rules out PC/PlayStation/Xbox crossplay for version 1.0; update 1.1 does not announce its introduction. More players and shared persistent worlds remain plans, not features to assume when buying with a friend.
Solo play is available offline, including on consoles. Read the dedicated co-op guide before joining a session: tutorial completion, host distance and separate solo/co-op animal populations matter.
The developer FAQ describes two players, but the Xbox product page checked on October 4 labels online co-op as 2-4 players. These official sources disagree. We have not independently tested four-player sessions, so the current maximum remains unresolved; check the actual lobby on your platform before buying for a larger group.
Equipment, updates and unsupported shortcuts
Update 1.1.212672 corrects several ammo-stat displays, while the known-issues page still lists two recoil discrepancies. The ammo guide explains both the loadout workflow and why a chart made for Early Access may lead to the wrong comparison.
The FAQ says mod support is not currently planned. We do not provide trainers, cheat downloads or a claimed “best rifle” ranking without current measurements. Upcoming maps and multiplayer improvements should be treated as plans until a dated release confirms them.
